Lightning is one of nature's most beautiful displays of raw power. A single bolt is hotter then the surface of the sun! Over the last 15 yrs I have seen lightning up close and personal on several chases and during lightning photography. Most recent was on August 18 2014 when a lightning bolt struck a power pole not 20 yards from the truck at St. Andrews State Park in Panama City Beach, Florida! I captured it on a cell phone video too! It happened during a 30 sec timed video on my cell. It was standard quality so I would be able to send it through text to fellow storm chaser Reed Timmer. That day Reed posted it on his social pages and it went viral! Always remember that lightning can and does kill people so know the risk when doing lightning photography.
Most of all always remember this..........
There is NO safe place to take lightning pictures up close like this!
